I haven’t gotten to any of the DVDs I planned to watch tonight, because E-Street Radio on Sirius has been playing a kick-ass Springsteen concert from New Year’s Eve 1980 …and when I get *buzzed* I start wanting to dance!
So this is me, for the past hour in my living room…
Okay, this is going to sound really strange to most of you...
… but I just realized last night that I haven’t drank any alcohol *at all* in the year 2010!
Now I just want to clear this up: this was NOT a “conscious decision”, this wasn’t a resolution from last year, and I did NOT have any kind of drinking-problem…
I simply haven’t had any *desire* to drink this year!
While I was never really a big-drinker, I did used to party alot in my late-teens & early 20’s. For some reason, over the past decade my desire to drink has dried-up… possibly due to working for a mental health/substance abuse hospital since 2001 - after you’ve had to hear about all these sad stories of people who have thrown the majority of their lives away due to drugs & alcohol, it can really make you “think-twice” before you have a drink.
I really don’t want to seem like a “fuddy-duddy” here, I always have a good-time & try to be sensible when I drink, but for the past couple of years I’ve usually only gone out to drink twice-a-year: Once for the work Holiday party, and again when an old friend of mine comes to visit from Arizona - and this year *both* of those things got screwed-up: I got sick the week of the Holiday party, and when my friend came for her annual visit this past Summer, she was 6-months pregnant… Since neither “usual” drinking-situation occured in 2010, that means my last drink was the Dec. 2009 Holiday-party!!!
I’ve decided that I don’t want to go the full-year without having anything to drink - the thought of that just makes me feel super-*old*, so I just went out & bought myself some Kahlua & milk to make mudslides with, and a bottle of wine… and since I have nowhere to go tonight, I will be drinking with YOU, my Tumblr-family! :D (…And also catching-up on some old-Neflix movies I haven’t had time to watch!)
BTW- I wanted you all to know that finding *this place* and you wonderful people was my favorite part of 2010!
Also, let me say this *before* I start drinking: "I really love you all!" :P
Don’t drink and drive - and don’t ride with anybody who does. Tipsy Tow offered by AAA: You don’t have to be a AAA member. From 6pm-6am on New Years Eve/Day, they will take your drunk self and your car home for FREE. Save this number… 1-800-222-4357. Please re-post this if you don’t mind.
When Meg asks for a reblog, I *must* comply!!!
Seriously folks, I’ve personally lost friends many years ago due to a drunk-driver’s stupidity, so I would like to echo lostmustard's concerns.
"Couple in the next room, bound to win a prize, They’ve been goin’ at it all night long. I’m just tryin’ to get some sleep, but these Motel-walls are cheap. Lincoln Duncan is my name, and here’s my song… Here’s my song.”
Please give this song a listen, it’s got some really great lyrics!
For the "Actors you resemble" or "Who would play you in a movie" meme...
I can’t think of any *current* actors who I look like, but when I was in high school in the late 80’s, I looked quite a bit like Jeremy Licht, who played the youngest son on the TV show "The Hogan Family"(aka- “Valerie’s Family”)… Here’s some side-by-side comparisons…
I’m pretty sure Mr. Licht has retired from the acting business (…plus I just saw some recent photos of him online: he’s now balding, and no longer looks anything like me!), so I must choose someone different to play me in a movie.
I think my choice to play “me” would be Tim Roth, I’m not saying that I look anything like him, but he’s a bit on the “short”-side (like me), plus he can play a great “wise-ass” & “smartest person in the room”, which fits me perfectly! :P
Of course, he’d have to do an American accent, but otherwise he’d be a great casting choice.
